ESOL-102 The Etymology of American Social Movements

Words matter. In collaboration with a select group of guest lecturers, we will explore which cultural-symbolic concepts are best applied to understanding social movements across disciplines: history, religion, music, art, philosophy, genetics, and literature. We will examine the ideology of racism and discrimination through the lens of human rights activism, in particular, the reasons why leaders, like Cornel West believe a coalition strategy is the best approach to the American struggle to secure equal rights for all.
