CNMS-401 Meta-Cinema: Films Made from Other Films

Meta-Cinema focuses on what has become a major tradition in moving-image media-making: the use of the ever-growing archive of film/video history as source material for new forms of moving-image experience. What began as experimental forms of documentary and avant-garde filmmaking has become one of the most productive approaches to modern media-making. A diverse array of filmmakers from across the globe have used and are using the previous history of cinema and the evolution of on-line sites (YouTube, etc.) as raw material for fashioning new interpretations of history, for theorizing the impact of mass media, and for providing a variety of new forms of audio-visual creativity.
