BIO-100M Explorations in Biology: Contagion: The Infectious Disease

A thematic course exploring five fundamental features of all biological systems, including organization, information flow, energy and matter, interactions and evolution. This course will delve into the evolution of a pandemic and its impact on human life. We will examine communities, the life cycle and evolution of pathogens, and the effects of pathogens on human cells, tissues, and whole systems. We will also find a road to recovery by discussing immunity and the development of vaccines. (Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning.) Three hours of class and three hours of laboratory. Not open to students who have taken Bio 101, 102 or any other Explorations in Biology course. Admission of non-first year students with permission of the instructor. Maximum enrollment, 30. Myers.
