ARTH-245 Arts of India

This course is a broad introductory survey to the art and architecture of the Indian subcontinent. We will begin our study with the material culture of the Indus Valley Civilization in the third millennium BCE and proceed chronologically to the present day. We will examine religious and secular works of art and architecture, and the art histories of royal courts, colonial, postcolonial, and contemporary India.
