AFRST-402 Feminist Theory and Practice: Transnational Feminisms

Interdisciplinary, feminist analysis of women and gender in southern African liberation struggles, including tensions of global feminist and human rights advocacy, public policy, international development, colonialism and neo-colonialism, pan-Africanism, and Cold War dynamics of the anti-apartheid movement. Analysis will focus on questions concerning the history of southern Africa, the apartheid regime, the complexity of global movements, connections between history and the present, including memory studies, which highlights the enduring relevance of who, what and how historical narratives are shaped.
