SOC-359 Gender & Embodiment

This course examines the relationship between gender (women, men, transgender, non-binary), bodies and society. We will explore gender and embodiment through topics like pageants, sports, surrogacy, sex work, and fatphobia. We consider the body as a cultural and historical site for struggle and resistance. We pay attention to gendered bodies in relation to other categories of difference including sexuality, race/ethnicity, social class and citizenship.
