SOC-232 Poverty and Inequality

This course will explore poverty and inequality in the United States. Using a sociological perspective, students will identify and examine various causes of poverty. Through poverty’s lens, students will focus on the impact of structures and institutions on people’s lived experiences and life outcomes. Relationships between poverty and life stage, family, education, healthcare, environment, work, and politics will be explored. The course will examine societal responses to poverty at local community, state, and national levels.
