MUSIC-110 Music Theory for Non-Majors

An introductory survey of the most important aspects of music theory necessary for performing, interpreting, and composing music. Topics range from reading notes and rhythms to analyzing and formulating chord progressions. Study of basic musical structures of the Western classical tonal idiom ("classical" music) and contemporary popular music practices that have developed from that. No previous knowledge of music required.
