HIST-342 The Minds of the Old South: Southern Intellectual History, 1700-1877

This research seminar investigates the intellectual and cultural history of white and black southern Americans from 1700 through Reconstruction. Topics include religious beliefs and practices, literary production and consumption, political and social thought, and relation of southern thought to national and transatlantic developments.
