HIST-203 African American History, 1619-present

Traces African American history from 1619 to the present. Lectures and discussions will focus on historical events and periods, the course is organized to critically evaluate about themes including agency and resistance; slavery and freedom; the relationship of race to categories of gender, class, and sexuality. Students will learn how to locate, analyze, evaluate, and interpret historical evidence and to express historical arguments in both written and oral presentation.
