FRNCH-423 Gender and Immigration

In-depth study of authors and filmmakers of the North African and Caribbean diasporas who, while French nationals residing in metropolitan France and writing in French, are often considered outsiders to the French literature realm. Focus on women writers, ethnic and gender stereotypes in the texts (novels, short stories, films) and paratexts (publishing materials, online and print media) of twentieth-and twenty-first century "female" postcolonial literature in France. Readings include works by Bellil; Bessora; Bouraoui; Pineau.
