FRNCH-357 Visages et Voix de la Ville: Exploring Contemporary Paris
Paris as urban space, object of representation, and vital element of French cultural identity. We will examine Paris in terms of geography and municipal organization, its social and spatial hierarchies, turbulent history and challenging future, and its cultural representations. Texts by writers such as Perec, Ernaux, Maspero, Milne, Clerc and theorists such as Augé and Lefevbre. Visual and digital media are supplemented by guest lecturers and specially designed virtual guided tours. Taught entirely in French.
