AFRST-221 Africa in Diaspora
Examines the experience of African people in Africa, the Americas and Europe from the 16th century to the present. Advances alternative knowledge of Africa and her descendants. Themes include slavery, resistance and revolution, freedom struggles, Black radical thought, race and culture, the Jim Crow south, collective identity, black power and the Black Panther Party, Gender identity, colorism, colonial legacies, Black identity and experience in relation to social, structural, and institutional hierarchies such as race, class, and gender.
